Is Quentin trendy?

I like this name, but the Baby Name Wizard listed it as brothers with Tristan (which I find is a very trendy name, even if not too popular). I am really looking for a classic name to go with my boys' names (Theodore and Augustus) that isn't popular in any way (or heading in that direction ).
The other names we are considering are Tobias (but isn't Toby a dog's name? And my older son sometimes goes by Teddy, so Toby and Teddy is a bit much), Atticus (again, too close to Augustus?), Whittemore (my mother's maiden name, since the middle name that has been used for the eldest girl in her family for 5 generations might end with me. We would call him Whit.)
Any input on those names or suggestions? I loved Leopold, until I thought about Leo and Theo. This just harder with each boy.
The middle name will be John after my grandfather (who has 13 great-grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter ).
Thanks,

I love your classic names (Theodore and Augustus). My DS#2 is August Hinley.
But I have to agree with Michaela.. I love Whittemore... very classic!! And I really don't like Quentin (sorry), jsut too trendy for my taste.
Our last name is Rhyne and DH's aunt named her son Rhyne, after her maiden name.

I actually really like the name Quentin, and although it could be construed as trendy (only because of its association with an innovative movie director), it's definitely not in the same league as Aiden, Braden, Caden, etc. I also think it goes really well with your other two sons' names!
Out of the other suggestions, I do love Whittemore (especially because of the personal meaning behind it). You might want to play with the spelling a bit to make it more linear and shorten it a bit.
Good luck - any of the names you're deciding between are fantastic, but I'm sure you'll know in the end what the "right" one is for your baby

While I love Whittemore, part of feels that using it is completely giving up on us having a girl. I would only be using it since I can't use my middle name. I think we will give a girl one more shot and if that ends of being a boy he can be Whit. I actually really like the name, but it may be a lot with our hyphenated last names too. Anyway, here is what the "rankings" for Quentin look like:

It seems like it is getting more popular but it isn't shooting up out of no where like some of the other trendy boys names.....

And the ranking for Tristan look very different. It is isn't even on the rankings before 1971! And definitely quickly becoming more popular over a shorter period of time. I wonder if the most popular year for Quentin (1919) is around when Theodore Roosevelt named his son Quentin? The name Theodore's popularity shot up while he was president!
And I laughed at the idea of Augustus, Leopold, and Atticus being trendy. Most people look at me like I'm crazy when I say those names!!! I could see that the name Atticus is totally based on the book, so it could border on trendiness (but certainly not popular). But sometimes I wonder if I was too far out using Augustus. People think I'm crazy!!!
Here is Tristan:

emit:And I laughed at the idea of Augustus, Leopold, and Atticus being trendy
I am a huge name nerd and I really pay attention to trends in naming...10 years ago you would never have heard any of those names or their variations anywhere, and now I have heard all of them several times over the last 2-5 years, on name websites, in the baby section of the local paper, as characters on tv shows, etc. Trendy to me means a name that was not at all popular, then becomes suddenly a lot more popular, so when you hear the name you can pretty reliably pinpoint about what time period the child was born in. As you can see the stats on Quentin have stayed very stable for some time, but if you enter Leo in its many variations, August/Gus, and Atticus into the Baby Name Wizard they have all seen a recent increase in popularity.
I don't think giving your child a trendy name is a bad thing at all, so please don't think I'm criticizing any of the names. But you asked in your post if I thought Quentin was trendy, so I assumed that you might like to know that some of the other names you mentioned, or variations of them, might be considered trendy by people. There is a huge trend right now towards reviving retro names and August(us), Leo(pold) and Atticus seem to be among those suddenly rising in popularity. Personally, I find all three names much more trendy than Tristan and way, way more trendy than Quentin. I'm sorry, I hope I didn't offend you...just wanted you to be aware so you won't be blindsided.

Yes, I agree. Almost all the old-fashioned names are making a comeback! And looking at the numbers, Atticus is quite trendy, though not popular at all. But I don't think it has any risk of hitting the top 100 any time soon. But really it's "newness" should take it off my list. I guess what I mean by trendy is modern? If the name has recently came into being, and has steadily risen in popularity since then, I would call it "trendy". Augustus (which I get a fair number of wrinkled faces in response to) is getting more popular, but I still think holding steadily in the 800's. I love that it was so much more popular 100 years ago than now! But the same is true for Quentin! Tristan on the other hand, didn't really exist before 1971 and that makes it not as desirable to me. I just didn't want to get Quentin mixed in with the Caden's and Jayden's! I guess what I should have asked is "Is Quentin Old-Fashioned?" I just wanted to make sure it didn't sound like a new "modern" name!
Thanks for your input! I try to watch the numbers pretty carefully too, since my mom named my sister Hannah, and look what happened there to such a lovely name . I don't want one of my boys names to suffer the same fate!
