This THanksgiving we are so happy our son is ok after having a late onset of Group Beta Strep which surfaced at 3 weeks of age. He is 5 weeks now and we are so grateful he is alive. I had 2 doses of anti-biotics etc. , but he still contracted it. I must say  God works in mysterious ways because my GD sure has taken the back seat. My little sweetie has totally recovered after 4 nights in the hospital. Just thought I would share.

So glad he's better!  Did you stay in the hospital for 48 hours after birth?  I had GBS with DS3 and they gave me antibiotics during labor, but we stayed in the hospital for 2 days so they could monitor him just in case.  Thanks for sharing your story, I haven't heard any GBS stories personally. 

Oh wow. That is amazing that he still got it even after anti-Bs. Kinda scary really. Did they say that it was pretty rare for that to ever happen?

 Wow, I'm so glad he's doing better!  GBS is really common, but I think it's really rare for the baby to actually contract it (especially after antibiotics).

Yes, it is very rare for a baby to get "late onset" GBS. He was in the hospital for 48 hours after birth, but apparently it can still surface when the baby is 3-4 weeks old and he was exactly 3 weeks old when he became sick. The Doctor said about 1 in 100 babies of mother's who were positive for GBS will develop it late as he did, but thank goodness the anti-biotics worked for him!

Wow, what symptoms did he have with it?  I was GBS pos too and luckily got my two rounds of antibiotics before I delivered.  I'm so glad that your baby is doing better.  How scared you must have been. 

He just all of the sudden one day started screaming and NOTHING was console him. Then I took his temp because he seemed a little warm, it was 101. I called the Doc. and they had him go immediately to the emergency room, which is standard to do in an child 8 weeks and under with a fever. They also immediatley start anti-biotics and thank goodness he recovered. The Doctor said it is rare, but still does happen and basically they said we dodged a bullet because we caught it before it did any damage---wheew!
