 I really hope that they allow it but i guess my beef is i really hope that it will be covered under Medicare as your working class families cant afford $20,000 a pop for PGD. It's those families that go on to have child after child after child in the quest for a desired gender, that it would be more benifical for the government to allow a family to have PGD before they have too many children and suffer with more welfare situations and more wasted money. IMPO

I have added my two cents hopefully they will listen to us (the minority) and not just the general public's view.

 I hope it is allowed because not only will people be able to balance their families but it is acknowledging that having a balanced family is a healthy and generally preferred outcome.

For so long we have been hiding away in this website pretending we dont want a girl/boy and maybe we will be allowed to voice these feelings aloud.

I'm not sure I think people should be able to have sex selection done for their 2nd child though... think of the future generations of all one boy, one girl families - how dull.

I actually feel sick- nervous, excited etc.  I have been thinkimg about PGD in Thailand in December since my 3rd DS was born in October 2009.  But it was always going to be a difficult 'project'- keeping it quiet, deciding if we take the boys or leave them at home, who would/ could look after them, do we try and hire someone to come with us or stay with them, taking time off work, when to book flights, the COST etc. etc. 

What a blessing it would be if we could reduce most of those worries to COST and 'keeping it quiet'. 

I really hope this works- it would make a huge difference to me and my beautiful family.

Yeah i do i find it odd that a person trying to fight for PGD would word in such a negative way. I was reading this and thinking as if. I think it is bias editing of the quote to tell you the truth.

The comments i was reading about it are just plain stupid, ones like

" they should just be happy with what they have, for gods skae if your nat happy to have a baby then dont have one" And "what next, choosing hair colour and eye colour and then what personality they will have and the jobs they choose" These people need to crawl in a whole and die

Oh and heres the kicker "this is just another excuse for feminists to have more girls and weed out the male race all together" WTF. doesn't she need a man to have a child with or atleast the by product of a man called SPERM.... what a dickhead!!!

So is this when we start writing to them? If so, to who specifically do we address our letter? Also, is it likely they will only use PGD, what about microsort??

I tried voting, but I couldnt find where to do it.

Actually, I dont think there figures are that bad. From what I understand, it doesnt have to win majority polls, but there does have to be a significnt amount out support for the change. (for the ethics committee to approve).

I feel that the sticking point will be when it comes to the federal legislation. I thought they may have been approving of it but it looks like the health minister is dead against it.

I would love for this change to happen as much as the next person, however, I was speaking with a IVF specialist recently & he believes that that change will not be approved. So - I guess we can just cross our fingers.

It's really frustrating, I mean we are going overseas anyway to have this procedure done (the consensus is not stopping us) so why would the Health Minister be so opposed to it.

I can envisage some really "nasty" tv debates in the future!!!

People feel so strongly on this matter but don't take into consideration "everyones right to choose".

I have emailed all of my friends asking them (if they feel that they are able to) support the petition. 

We can only do what we can.
