interesting...I always thought that the more days of bd you have before your cut off the better...I was going to bd from cd 7 until my cut off which might be anywhere from cd 12-cd16.

When people have frequent BD, you never know sure which BD time produced the sperm that "won." So yes, they could have gotten pregnant from 4 or 5 days prior to ovulation - and I agree that 5 day cut-offs favor boys. However, my guess is that the "freshest" sperm are more likely to win during frequent BD, and that egg is probably fertilized by a sperm from one of the more recent BD times. It's pretty difficult to get pregnant from a 4 or 5 day cut-off (though it is certainly possible to do so). But that's just a guess - there is no way to know for sure.

Some people who do frequent BD BD 2x a day some of the time, but with most of the charts I looked at, it was just once a day, every day or every other day. Frequent BD is just 50/50, though. My feeling is that it is wisest to limit frequent BD to within the 3-4 days prior to ovulation or to use protection if BD 5+ days before ovulation.

Abstaining for 7+ days does lower sperm count and favors girls. People typically abstain for a long time before O+12, but you can also abstain before a cut-off too.

These may stupid questions but ... when you say "4 BD times between 5 days prior to ovulation through the day after.." does this mean that they could have gotten pregnant 4 days or even 5 days prior ovulation? I thought I read that can sway for a boy.

Or do you think they were maybe BD 2x a day 2-3 days before ovulation? And all of that BD is to help lower sperm count, right? I

also read about abstinence to lower sperm count (like 2 weeks). Is that only if you are doing O + 12? Thanks for answering all my questions. I'm still trying to understand.

thanks for the info!! This is the exact plan that I'm going to follow...tyring for a 2 day cut off, but at the very least...going to have frequent bd that avoids ovulation. Thanks for all the research hun!

No, that still isn't quite right. ;)

I'm not talking about ANY BD that avoids ovulation. What I found was that FREQUENT BD (at least 4 BD times) within the 5 days prior to ovulation through the day afterward, favored girls if it avoided ovulation. So you need to have at least 4 BD times, preferably within the 5 days prior to ovulation, for it to fit the pattern that I found favored girls.

I think having lots of BD that avoids ovulation is a good plan (but I think it's best to avoid BD the day after ovulation unless you know for sure you are in O+12 timing).

oooh, so you were saying that any type of Bd that AVOIDS ovulation, whether it be a 3 day, 2 day, 1 day, or 1 day and day after...you found it to sway for a girl. Thank you so much for doing this! That is my exact plan :). Because I can't pinpoint O very well...I'm just trying to avoid ovulation and have lots of bd before. Thanks so much!

No, no, no, no, no! A thousand times no! :) According to my study, frequent BD THROUGH OVULATION does not sway at all. Please don't take anything I wrote as supporting frequent BD through ovulation because I think that is a poor timing method for ttc a girl.

I was talking about frequent BD that AVOIDS ovulation in the above comment. Some of the charts where frequent BD avoided ovulation had a two day cut-off, some had a one day cut-off, and some had a one or two day cut-off and then BD the day after ovulation. I haven't looked to see if any of those patterns had a higher success rate, but that would be interesting to check.

thank you so much for doing this!! I am also planning on doing frequent bd from af until a 2 or 3 day cut off. But it's very hard for me to pinpoint O so I might end up with a 4 day cut off or even a 1 day cut off.

The one thing you said that has me concered is this:

I quote:

So does this mean that frequent BD through ovulation has better stats on getting a girl than a cut off of 1 day?? how about a cut off for 2 or 3 days?
